HOW
Through a 6 week program that is specifically designed to educate children about healthy eating and living, in a way that is fun, engaging, inspiring as well as encouraging them to play as a form of exercise.
We facilitate the lessons for year 5 students for 2 hours a week over 6 weeks with support of their teachers and assistants. Half of the students will take part in the classroom activity whilst the other half take part in the sports activity. After an hour they swap over and the lessons are repeated.
Over the course of the program students will cover the following
Classroom based theory and practical activities:
- The digestion system
- Healthy foods
- Food Groups
- Making fruit Kebabs
- Making Vegetable Pizza’s
- 5 A day
- Poverty
Outdoor sporting activities:
- Individual circuit training
- How to take pulse
- Games in Pairs
- Games in small groups
- Tags Games
- Games in Large Groups
- Army Style Assault Course
All of the games are designed using minimal equipment so the children are able to recreate the activities at home with their families or friends.
National Curriculum
Following the pilot scheme at Grove School it has meant we have been able to tie it in with the national curriculum in terms of Physical Education, Science and technology so there is no negative affect to the child’s learning.
Who is behind the scheme?
Trowbridge Town Council delivers the program with the backing of Club Health Gym, ASDA and The Consortium. The Pilot project was carried out at The Grove School.
